Alex Kingston's character in Doctor Who, who seems to inspire a Marmite response from everyone who watches it.

Ah, right. I haven't been following it really since David Tennant left, I'm afraid, so I have no idea what's going on with regards to Companions or storylines. I'm not keen on Matt Smith's portrayal of the Doctor, so my interest sort of drifted when he took over.

Which does at least mean I find all the spoilerific wank on Twitter only mildly irritating rather than a possible source of rage every time an episode airs.

She was introduced in the last (I think) David Tennant series, in the episode about the library.

They did have space suits of a type, mainly as a plot element.

I don't think I saw that one; I'm going to have to get the DVDs to catch up!

Sorry, but I'm a Liberal Democrat, so my answer has to be that she is sometimes quite cool, and sometimes annoying. ;-p

I used to find her smug and annoying, but she's become pretty awesome of late.

I'd go with somewhere in the middle, or at least to the left of awesome - she's good, but not amazing.

I like her a lot because she reminds me of me.

(Which means she may well be the latter...)

I thought she was interesting at the start but now I find the character annoying (I like the actress from other things) - I wonder if they knew tenant was off she when she was introduced? Her plot line seems to be getting a little rushed.

The only times she isn't annoying are when she's propelling the plot because Amy and Rory are too damn thick to put it together.

During an after-episode discussion, I compared her to a bazooka. Loud and makes a lot of mess? No, she's used once to clear an obstacle and then tossed aside. A great time-travelling Mary Sue.

Pft.

Depends on the episode. She was pretty redundant to "The Time Of Angels", and I don't remember her doing much of use in "The Pandorica Opens". The "floating into space in very nice shoes" sequence was pure fanwank that launched a thousand Amy/River's shoes slashfics (or was that just me?).

This time though, she got to do some character development - the realisation that every time she meets the Doctor (from her POV) he knows her less, and that the day he doesn't recognise her is the last time she'll see him - and probably the day she dies. Which we the audience know is true, from "Silence in the Library".

She also did the mature companion thing, keeping the relative newbies on the right path, helping Amy move past the immediate moment of what happened with the Doctor and keep going, which I thought was great - she's spent less time on screen with the Doctor than Amy, but has had a much longer and deeper relationship with him.

So yeah, she can be good.
